Back to School Basics

August 20, 2020

Dear KIPP Delta Families,

As we near our first day of school on Monday, August 24, we are excited to officially kick off this new school year and reconnect with our students and families. Our team has been focused on creating a seamless plan to provide the needed resources to all of our students, for whatever learning option they choose. This includes distributing over 1,000 Chromebooks to KIPP students, so every scholar has access to learning materials.

At KIPP Delta Public Schools, we believe in learning together with our families, and this year will be no different. We learned many things last spring, and we will incorporate improved processes and solve any issues that arise. We ask for your flexibility and grace, as plans may change as the environment shifts. We are on this journey together.

Here are a few updates:

Meal Distribution

For our virtual and hybrid scholars, our first meal distribution will take place on Monday, August 24, 2020. For more information about times and pick-up locations, please visit https://kippdelta.org/meal-distribution-virtual-hybrid-scholars or call your school directly at the number listed below.

Daily Attendance

Attendance matters! Every student is expected to complete assignments given by their teachers. Virtual or hybrid scholars enrolled at KIPP Delta Elementary Literacy Academy and KIPP Blytheville College Preparatory School will demonstrate their attendance by answering an attendance question each morning and afternoon. Virtual or hybrid scholars enrolled at KIPP Delta College Preparatory School, KIPP Blytheville Collegiate High and KIPP Delta Collegiate High must participate in enrolled virtual courses for one hour, per class, per day, per week; submit assignments by the deadline; and attend any mandatory tutoring sessions if a student’s grade drops below a 70 in any class.

Bus Transportation

Before boarding the bus, each student will have his or her temperature checked. Please stay at the bus stop with your student until he or she has boarded. Upon arrival, bus riders will be greeted by a teacher or staff member and enter the school building at a separate entrance from car riders. This teacher or staff member will escort every student safely to his or her class.

Arrival

School buildings will open for student arrival from 7:40-8 a.m. Car riders will use a separate entrance from bus riders. As families arrive, our school nurse or a staff member will complete a brief health screening for every student while he or she remains in his or her vehicle. Teachers and staff are prepared to escort each student safely to his or her class.

Dismissal

Dismissal begins at 4 pm. As families arrive, a teacher or staff member will be ready to welcome you. Parents will stay in their vehicles while their child is escorted safely from his or her classroom. All students will remain in their classroom until their parent has arrived.

Technology & Virtual Learning Support

If you have not already done so, we ask that your student attempts to log into his or her Chromebook before Monday, August 24. On Friday from 2-5 p.m. or Sunday from 4-7 p.m., our team will be ready to answer any of your questions about virtual learning at 870-714-9404. If you have any hardware technology issues, please contact your student’s teacher directly. We are expecting a high volume of calls. If you can’t reach us, please leave a message, and we will follow-up with you as soon as possible to ensure you are prepared for the first day of school.

School Open Houses & Virtual How-To

In the next few days, each school team will be launching virtual open houses to answer additional questions about the school year. These events will be posted on our website at https://kippdelta.org/calendar-and-events/list and on the KDPS official Facebook account at www.facebook.com/kippdelta .

Whether you are a new or returning family, celebrating a milestone like a new kindergartner, or this is your student’s first year in middle school, please know we are excited to partner with you to make this the best possible learning experience we can. We can’t wait to launch our first full week of school on Monday, August 24!

If you have any questions, please reach out to your student’s school.
