KIPP Forward’s Mission
KIPPsters set a high bar for their futures. For some, that means being the first in their family to graduate from college or buy a home. For others, it means serving our country or creating a business. So KIPP schools ensure each student has the skills and confidence to pursue any path that leads to their highest aspirations. Our counselors support students to choose and prepare for a right-fit college or education path and a meaningful career.
Why KIPP Forward Matters
Every child deserves an excellent education and the opportunity to be prepared for college and choose the best path forward toward an economically self-sufficient, choice-filled life and a rewarding career.
KIPP Forward supports KIPP high school students and alumni in developing the tools and knowledge needed to pursue a career of highest aspiration and follow their dreams. The KIPP Forward team works in conjunction with KIPP Delta schools to ensure that all students have the access, skills and resources necessary to navigate the path to college, career and beyond.
How KIPP Forward Works
High School Support
KIPP Forward begins working with KIPP Delta students in 9th grade. Support is provided around determining the best career path and the best steps students can take to continue on that path successfully.
Pre-College Opportunities
KIPP Forward posts opportunities for students to explore college early and often included pre-college summer programs, college presentations, college trips, college fairs, and more!
Preparing for the Cost of College
College is expensive and it is never too early to start saving and applying for scholarships. KIPP Forward works with KIPP schools to support a College Savings initiative and a financial literacy curriculum.
Parent and Community Engagement
KIPP Forward provides workshops and invites guest speakers to assist parents in guiding their students through the college process.
Career Integration
KIPP focuses on helping students lead choice-filled lives. While we know that a college degree is the clearest path to a life of opportunity and choice, we also know some students pursue different paths to fulfilling careers. KIPP Forward helps our students expand their knowledge of career options and helps those students navigate the steps needed to pursue the career of their choice.
College Persistence
Once students graduate from high school, KIPP Forward remains a constant support to ensure that they remain on the path to college completion and career readiness. KIPP Forward counselors visit students at their college campuses and keep in constant communication to discuss academic progress, financial aid, social pressures, and internship opportunities. KIPP Forward also hosts events during holidays and breaks. By intentionally building relationships, KIPP Forward is able to help address specific issues, steer students towards appropriate resources, and empower students to advocate for themselves.
Partnerships
At the national level, KIPP has created college partnerships with universities who commit to not only admitting KIPP students, but also providing critical resources once those students are on campus to ensure that the students remain on track for a college degree. Some current KIPP college partners include Vanderbilt University, Spelman College, Fisk University, Franklin and Marshall College, Colby College, and many more.
