At KIPP Delta Public Schools, our primary goal is to ensure every student will be able to attend the college or university of their choice and find success there and beyond. KIPP Delta Through College was established to assist KIPP students on their road toward college degrees and successful futures.
We constantly reinforce the focus on college, beginning on the very first day of school at every grade level. However, sex, drugs, crime, poverty, and complacency remain formidable adversaries that apply negative pressure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
KIPP Delta Through College activities expose students to college campuses, ensure they are meeting the academic and extracurricular metrics needed for admission to college, and prepare their families for both the financial and emotional strains of sending a child away to college.
Nationwide, over 80% of KIPP alumni matriculate to college. Because our KIPP Through College program is leveraging the best practices of other KIPP programs, we believe KIPP Delta is on track to graduate hundreds of successful college students.
KIPP Delta Collegiate High School has a KIPP Through College Counselor who works with high school students on summer internships and academic programs, college admissions, financial aid applications, high school course selection, and SAT and ACT test preparation. The program currently serves approximately 240 students in 9th – 12th grades. Ninety-six percent of these young adults are African-American, and nearly 70 percent will be the first in their family to complete college.
