Why I choose to teach at KIPP Delta:

I choose to work for KIPP Delta, because I am a product of KIPP. I came to KIPP Delta through Teach for America for a two year commitment, but stayed beyond that because to whom much is given much is required. I attended KIPP Academy in the South Bronx from 6th-8th grade. At that time there were only two KIPP schools in the country. Now there are over 100 KIPP schools nationwide. During my tenure at KIPP Academy I was provided with a vast array of opportunities; playing the violin, traveling the country, and attending a boarding high school on scholarship. Through KIPP I have been afforded so much, therefore it is my commitment that children in the Delta, regardless of their socioeconomic status, race, or gender, have access to the same educational opportunities as children across the nation. Our communities, families, and students of the Delta are entitled to much more, and that is why I work for KIPP Delta.

Why our commitment to see each student to and through college is important:

My first class of KIPPsters (Class of 2017) are about to be promoted to high school. I could not be more proud to see my students on the cusp of their educational journey to and through college. Seeing my students take this next step in their lives means that they will shatter the glass ceiling that society has placed on my students because of their geographic location. It means that my students will, with no doubt in my mind, surpass educational achievements I have made in my life. One of the happiest days of my life will be receiving calls from former students inviting me to their college/university graduations. I need to begin saving for plane tickets now!
