December Saturday School
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the holiday season! Throughout this first semester, our KIPPsters have been busy reading literally millions of words, completing college applications, and participating in several enriching extracurricular activities. Our staff has also been busy, fully embracing our regional themes of Love, Literacy, and Leadership through regular professional development that pushes their thinking. It is apparent that many of us at KIPP Delta need a bit of a break.
It is in this spirit that I write to you to inform you that we will not run transportation for the Saturday School scheduled for December 10, 2016. While some of our schools are planning to invite families and students for certain activities on this day, we ultimately felt that the time for this month’s Saturday School would be better spent for our staff to engage in professional development activities of their choosing and for our students to rest and prepare for the upcoming semester.
Saturday School has long been a part of KIPP Delta’s history and culture – when we started, we firmly believed that this additional time in the classroom was part of the “More Time” pillar KIPP schools around the country espoused and was a necessary part of the developmental time our students needed to be successful. As we have evolved, we have begun thinking through the best ways for us to spend Saturday School and before we make any decisions, we want to hear from you.
Please be on the lookout for a survey sent to your kdparent Google emails and posted on our social media sites within the next week. It will ask you to tell us what you think would be the best ways for our schools to effectively use Saturday School time. We will strongly take your input into consideration, so please do plan to chime in!
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the semester and a safe and restful holiday break.
